About
Siyu's work incorporates a wide variety of media and materials, such as sound, light, paper and copper, in order to convey a therapeutic power of art as a path of regeneration and healing.
Her immersive light installations refer to landscapes once visited by the artist. Shown in the dark, they create a sensory and meditative atmosphere, further enhanced by sound effects which bring out an element of a religious worship. In this way, Siyu invites the visitor to live a healing experience, to surrender and let go of what cannot be held back in the face of the sublime character of nature. References to sites visited by the artist can also be traced through specific metals in her work, such as the red sandstone of the copper mines in Jordan.
The intrinsic formal properties of colour, light, shape and texture, of the used materials, are also key to Siyu’s work. Triggering reactions in materials through corrosion techniques, dyeing and the exposure to burning incenses contribute to the transformative, healing experience that these works convey. As a result, her body of work can be seen as an exploration of a healing system that draws on all our sensory perceptions, including that of smell.
