Editor’s Welcome —
For six years, MADE IN BED has been committed to embracing and interrogating art from our corner of Bedford Square.
Now, more than ever, we at MADE IN BED hope to explore what the art world does best: facilitate connection around things that are beautiful—even in times of great polarization. MADE IN BED aims to show how art and the art world permeate every aspect of life.
Emerging Artists introduces us to a wide range of artists just coming up in their careers, while Interviews questions those who are already established within it. Entering its third year of publication, the Luxury Edit section engages with the ever-more-present intersection between the luxury and the art world. En Plein Air draws our eyes out of the traditional gallery and museum spaces, to the outdoor and public spheres. Through Agents of Change, we see how art can inspire and be indicative of movements towards social improvement. Art exists in our reactions to it. The Reviews section gives you an idea of the artworks, artists, movements are showing around the world right now. Art Markets further examines these things as trends through sales in auction houses or on the primary market, and what they can tell us about the future. Features allows us to do in-depth dives on all of the latest stories, and for the students of Sotheby’s Institute of Art—and our editors—to give their personal takes.
All these sections combine to create the tapestry of MADE IN BED, revisiting old traditions, considering new possibilities, and seeing that it is all connected. We are racing to explore and question the art world as we come to see it more clearly during our time at Sotheby’s Institute.
At MADE IN BED, we will continue to challenge, be inspired-by, and uplift from our little art world and beyond.
