About

In her works Baeree investigates the space of the canvas as a personal space, a private reality, which only the artist has access to, but which simultaneously invites the observer to reflect on the need to rediscover their own identity, their own internal world. These themes are found within the Isolated series. The only two constant presences in the works are the naked figure, which refers directly to the presence of the artist herself, and to the element of water. Floating on water, the body is weightless, the sound is blocked, and everything is still. This timeless and spaceless place where the body experiences a state of tranquility conveys the ideal dimension of the artist’s own inner place.

In the series Glimpse, the artist recalls how it is not possible to completely exile oneself from the reality, but that her two worlds are always in communication. In this way, protecting herself behind the imaginary windows, the female’s gaze nonetheless desires to leave the canvas to observe the outside world.

In her latest research, Baeree has approached a digital work which offers her the opportunity to further investigate themes of her production by lengthening and distorting the bodies of the figures represented or by hiding their faces. It is a process that causes a feeling of visual confusion to the observer and adds a fascinating element to her work.

Biography

Painting has been Baeree's medium of expression since the age of 14 when she lived for a year in New Jersey and art became her personal way to communicate freely without a language barrier. Back in South Korea she continued her studies in painting and graduated from Hongik University in Seoul with a Fine Art Degree. She is currently attending a Master's course in Art Business at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London.
