About
Fantastic, sullen, clumsy, and grotesque characters. Georg's "Goblins" animate her canvases, portrayed as they wander the English countryside, stealing and awkwardly gorging themselves on food and vegetables they find. Inspired by the descriptions of luxurious and strange poisoned fruits and vegetables present in the Goblin markets of Christina Rossetti's Victorian poetry "Goblin Market" (1862), the artist investigates the natural world and its intersection with agriculture and food production in contemporary life. Goblins are hybrid characters with a humorous and fairytale tone, through which Georg explores gender roles, another fundamental theme of her artistic production. Georg predominantly works in oil on canvas as the technique's tactile nature allows her to create soft layers of medium-heavy oil on the support's surface. She is currently experimenting with wood support, studying a new series inspired by German carnival costumes' folkloric tradition starting from a 15th-century manuscript. Georg is the founder, with Jack Chauncy, of All Mouth Gallery: a digital platform that promotes, connects emerging artists, and develops new ways of exhibiting both physical and online.
