About
Sophie finds charm in everyday life, with an eye for pleasing details adorning every subject and setting. Through experimenting with contrasts, light and shadow, she has learnt how to transform simple objects into arresting centrepieces. This is evident in photos such as Sand dunes and Ski Ants, where a simple setting has been modified and adjusted to produce a more dynamic and captivating image. Sophie has sought the company of a lens throughout events in her childhood. However, it was upon receiving a volume of Steve McCurrys photojournalism that her passion was truly sparked, for both travel and photography. She was fascinated by the way a single image can narrate entire stories and evoke powerful emotions. Much of her favourite work was taken during her travels to Fiji and India, where she took many up close portraits and got to know her subjects, making each image more personal and special . Sophie's interest developed further whilst compiling her A-level photography portfolio, where she expanded her knowledge for the technicalities of camera settings and dark-room photo development. Sophie loves how through editing, the same subject can be portrayed elegantly in black or white, or be brought to life after playing with colour schemes. She is always looking to improve and expand her style, spending much of her free time researching artists and photographers to encourage her to use different tools and mediums for her work. This is the beginning of Sophie's journey and she’s excited for what’s to come!
Biography
Sophie Scrase is a twenty two-year old part-time freelance photographer. She grew up and was educated at a school in Bristol where she studied A-level photography. After leaving school Sophie continued her studies at Exeter University, however this was to read Psychology; a subject that much of her former work was inspired by; she was intrigued how the human psyche can be portrayed through a photographic medium. Once graduated in June 2020, Sophie reunited with her love of art and has recently set up a website to display her portfolio. She now sells both framed prints of hers and postcard collections and takes part in all kinds of projects, from designing EP covers to photoshoots. One of Sophie's biggest passions is to travel, to capture and learn about people from different cultures and to feel inspired whilst surrounded by natural beauty. Although covid has put travel on hold, once borders open back up again, Sophie is eager to pick up her camera and start exploring again.
