MADE IN BED proudly introduces our newest Agents of Change Co-Editor, Lylia Hafiz!

Lylia was born and raised in Algiers, Algeria. She left at the age of 18 to study Business Administration at IE University (Spain) and spent some time at Brown University and at the University of South Carolina (USA). Once she graduated, Lylia decided to complete a Master’s degree in Marketing Strategy & Innovation at Cass Business School (UK) and started a career in marketing.

Her interest in art started at home, influenced by her grandmother Souhila Bel Bahar who was an Algerian painter. Souhila showed her established international artists such as Picasso and Delacroix who had been inspired by the region. She also introduced her to other Algerian painters like Baya Mahieddine, M’hamed Issiakhem or Mohammed Khadda which sparked Lylia’s interest for North African art.

This passion and her existing background in business prompted a career change in 2023. Lylia joined Sotheby’s Institute as an Art Business student, with the intention of focusing on African and Middle Eastern art. Always eager to discover new artists, she wishes to highlight their impact on driving change and to bring more exposure to their names.

Outside work and university, Lylia enjoys to travel, the outdoors, and yoga. She is also an enthusiastic cook, and loves to bring her friends together around homemade meals.
