Annette Fernando, Emerging Artists Co-Editor
Favourite Artwork: Käthe Kollwitz, Woman with Dead Child, 1903. It is the most powerful and visceral etching I have ever seen.
Favourite place in London: The red brick mansions of Kensington, the parks and nature reserves, the path along the River Thames, the Charing Cross book shops and the old pubs. It’s impossible to choose a favourite!
Fun Fact: “I was a film extra in many films including Bridget Jones, Doctor Strange and Johnny English.”
MADE IN BED proudly introduces our newest Emerging Artist Co-Editor, Annette Fernando!
Annette Fernando is a London-based artist of Sri Lankan, Italian and French heritage, known for her exploration of the representation of people, particularly women, and sensuality, in cinema throughout the past century. Annette’s focus on everyday situations and the representation of women in cinema speaks to larger themes of identity, gender and the impact of media on our perceptions. Her work invites viewers to reflect on the role of film and television in shaping our relationships with ourselves and others.
She holds a BA in Fine art from Central Saint Martins and is currently pursuing an MA in Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. As an internationally acclaimed artist and prolific illustrator Annette has exhibited work and is in private collections across the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and America. Recognised in publications such as Moof Mag and Maximum Rocknroll, Annette has been selected for the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in both 2023 and 2021. Notably, she emerged as one of the winners of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize in 2014.
