Favorite Artwork:
One of my favorite artworks is Andrea Fraser’s Museum Highlights: A Gallery Talk (1989). I love this piece because it’s such a clever and funny way of questioning what we often take for granted about museums. In the performance, Fraser pretends to be a museum guide, but she mixes absurd comments with real facts, which makes you stop and think about how museums present art and objects as something so "important" or "valuable."
I find it really inspiring because it challenges the idea that art and museums are only for certain people or that they’re always neutral spaces. It’s smart, thought-provoking, and even a little bit uncomfortable at times—but that’s what makes it so memorable.
Favourite Place in London:
My favorite place in London is the British Library. I love it because it’s not just a library—it’s a space where I can feel completely focused and inspired. Whether I’m working on assignments or just taking a break to explore the exhibitions, there’s something about the atmosphere that feels both calming and motivating. Plus, the collection is amazing, and I always find something new to discover. It’s definitely my go-to spot when I need a change of scenery or a quiet place to think.
Fun Fact:
I once spent three years living in Paris, where I fell head over heels for art—and baguettes. Honestly, it’s hard to say which one stole my heart first. Between getting lost in museums and perfecting my croissant-eating technique, I basically became an expert in appreciating the finer things in life!
MADE IN BED proudly introduces our newest Emerging Artists Co-Editor, Jiwon Ko!
Born and raised in Busan, South Korea, I’ve always felt a deep connection to the ocean, which was a constant backdrop to my life. Growing up by the sea taught me to appreciate the beauty of nature’s rhythm, something I continue to find inspiring in my everyday life.
Outside of my studies, I find joy in discovering cozy cafés, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and revisiting favorite exhibitions for fresh inspiration.
I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in London, driven by a passion for exploring how art reflects and challenges societal structures. My academic journey began with a foundation in French literature, where I developed a keen interest in analyzing texts and exploring cultural narratives. However, my three years living in Paris marked a pivotal shift in my intellectual pursuits, as the city’s vibrant art scene transformed my focus and deepened my appreciation for visual culture. Surrounded by world-class museums, galleries, and historic landmarks, I immersed myself in the art world, spending countless hours exploring exhibitions and engaging with diverse artistic traditions.
These experiences revealed to me how art serves as a powerful lens to interrogate identity, culture, and history, offering perspectives that go beyond written or spoken language.
Before returning to academia, I gained extensive professional experience across various creative fields, including marketing, exhibition organizing, magazine editing, and video production. In marketing, I worked on campaigns that highlighted the cultural significance of art, while my role in exhibition organizing allowed me to collaborate with artists and curators to bring ambitious projects to life. As a magazine editor, I focused on shaping narratives that connected art and culture with broader audiences, honing my ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. In video production, I created and produced content that explored the intersection of travel, art, and culture, one of which received an award for its innovative storytelling and visual impact. These experiences provided me with invaluable insights into how art engages diverse audiences and how institutions can foster meaningful connections between their collections and the public.
