Fun Fact: I lived on Tanna Island, Vanuatu for 6 months in 2010. Whilst there I climbed an active volcano- Mount Yasur, which I then slid down on my bottom screaming.

MADE IN BED proudly introduces our newest Agents of Change Editor, Chantel Akworkor Thompson!

London-born Chantel Akworkor Attakakra Thompson is an independent cultural curator and educator based in Ghana. She previously served as the Executive Director of La Foundation for the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing, realizing, and preserving the visions of creatives in Ghana. Recently, she was awarded a scholarship by Culture & Sotheby’s Institute of Art under the Cultural Leaders program to pursue an MA in Art Business. She intends to use the skills gained from this course to further enhance her contributions to Ghana’s creative industry.

Chantel has curated exhibitions in Accra, New York, London, and Paris, primarily showcasing the works of African and Caribbean artists such as Amoako Boafo, Adjei Tawiah, and Aplerh-Doku Borlabi. Her insights have also enriched art catalogues and publications, including Sounds of Blackness for The Metropolitan Museum, Manilla, and Boom Saloon.

Drawing on a wealth of experiences from years of travel to remote destinations and living among diverse societies in the South Pacific and across Africa, Chantel curates transformative experiences. Using art as a medium, she explores new ideas and highlights the potential of cross-cultural exchange.

Her previous work in schools, as well as with social justice and anti-racist organizations, has equipped her to empower others in their journeys toward building a world where belonging and justice prevail—a world free from oppression, where individuals can flourish in the brilliance of existence.
