To Me, To You: A Group Exhibition Reimagining the Everyday by The Artist Workspace

Founded in 2020 and established in 2021 by Zoë Goetzmann, The Artist Workspace Gallery is a nomadic online gallery and artist agency. Based in London, AWS focuses on the promotion of fine and digital artists scouted via social media and personal connections. With the creation of this virtual space for artists, the gallery’s goal is to create a virtual bridge between emerging artists, mid-career artists and both the digital and traditional art worlds. As Goetzmann believes in the creativity, talents, and influence of artists found via social media and the digital landscape, she has consequently created a space with services aimed at fostering their talents and furthering their entrepreneurial skills.

For as long as I can remember, a personal motto of mine has been, “if you can’t find a space in your [desired] industry, sometimes it is necessary to create your own.
— Founder and Director, Zoë Goetzmann

AWS has created a dedicated virtual space for the promotion of its artists. With a user-friendly digital navigational system and a customisable virtual gallery, the gallery aims to create a unique environment in the art world dedicated to the promotion of artists through technological advancement.

Services offered to artists, students, gallerists, and other art professionals include editorial consulting and promotion, curatorial projects, and NFT consulting - a new feature added recently in response to the latest NFT craze, through which the gallery aims to provide help with NFT set-up and promotion.

Goetzmann is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and The Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design. Written for Sotheby’s Institute of Art her thesis titled “Artists on Instagram: The Art World of Instagram” explored the phenomenon of Instagram and its potential disruptive capabilities and drove her to pursue this project. Working alongside Goetzmann is the curator of the gallery Nina Paiva and the presiding managing editor and writer Emma Grayson.

Curated by Nina Paiva, To Me, To You is the gallery’s introductory pop-up show. On view from 3 February 2022 to 6 February 2022, the show invites viewers to reimagine the present, and through both physical and virtual shows, presents five artists from London, Bath, and New York, Jennifer Moore, Juliette Hayt, Maddie Stringer, Özlem Thompson, and Zac Merle.

To Me, To You reflects on the visions of each of these artists. The works represent visual perceptions of what each artist sees and imagines in their everyday life and present-day world.

Jennifer Moore

Moore is a London-based artist and architect who creates works that are deeply influenced by her experience as an architect. She draws upon the idea of “mapping” by exploring the relationships between physical, psychological and digital mediums, spaces, and landscapes.

Jennifer Moore, Flawed Precision.

Juliette Hayt

Hayt is a New York City-based artist working in oil paintings and figure drawings. Through her work, she depicts a psychoanalytic view of the world with a touch of surrealism. Her creations seek to capture the tension between the human body and mind and by doing so, she studies the complexities of human nature.

Juliette Hayt, Fusion.

Maddie Stringer

Stringer is a London-based designer who integrates social activism into her works. Her creations are not bound by one specific practice and embrace various disciplines, mediums, and materials. Tinged with a humorous tone, she defines her work by the notion of “fabulousness” in its various forms.

Maddie Stringer, Ghost Printer.

Özlem Thompson

Born in Istanbul, Thompson is a London-based artist with a background in biology and botany. She integrates nature into her practice to reflect her perception of the world, and through her dream-like paintings, she utilises it to create bright, vivid, and colourful imagery.

Özlem Thompson, Flowers I.

Zac Merle

Merle is based between London and Bath and works predominantly with collage, texture, found images, and paper. He integrates commonly rejected materials into his work as a way of reclaiming their previously treasured value. Influenced by the works of Basquiat, Rauschenberg and Yamusangie, he creates bold, colourful, and meditative abstractions.

Zac Merle, Present Antiquities.
