AGENTS of CHANGE: Manifesto
MADE IN BED is happy to introduce AGENTS of CHANGE, a new section dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the Art world.
“In a racist society it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.” — Angela Y. Davis
The Agents of Change initiative was born from a reflection on what we can do, as individuals and as a platform, to actively support positive social change and the black live matter movement.
MADE IN BED is a London-based magazine led by MA students of the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. As current and future art world professionals, we believe that it is our responsibility to ensure that the art world becomes more inclusive and diverse on every level. It is our responsibility to recognise and dismantle the structures that perpetuate racial injustice and systemic racism. And for this to happen, we must actively become anti-racist.
As the title of the initiative suggests, we believe that we must all become agents of change. The aim of this project is to share the platform with those who need it and do our part in levelling the playing field by bringing forth and promoting projects, works, voices and art by the BIPOC community of the Art world.
We will highlight Black and POC artists, art professionals, projects, exhibitions and initiatives. We will also provide resources to raise awareness and inform on BIPOC issues. We firmly believe that informing, engaging, connecting and bridging people together is what will change mentalities and shape the next generation.
To do so, we believe that the narrative must be diverse, other points of views and stories must be told. In the effort to include as many perspectives as possible, we would like to invite the BIPOC Art community to participate in this project and collaborate with us.
CALL FOR ACTION
We understand that it’s a privilege to be able to choose to talk about a certain topic or not and that in order for change to happen, we need to be a part of it. In light of this, we decided to create the initiative Agents of Change.
We would like to invite BIPOC members of the Art World to use our platform to raise awareness and bring light on BIPOC Art and BIPOC issues. If you are a BIPOC artist, curator, writer, collector, art critique, poet or a creative, join us in our effort to help inform, educate and broaden mentalities in the art world. If you would like to become a collaborator, please reach out to ahlem.baccouche@sia.edu.
MIB is open to every suggestion, comment and recommendation on how we could better use this platform to be part of the solution against systemic and institutional racism.
We want to be part of the change.
